Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable stories such as weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
