Aurora Aksnes' first musical memories involve finding a tiny piano that was in her basement and becoming enthralled by the sounds it made. Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes advised her to use music for personal growth, rather than for the purpose of making a living or to pursue an interest. The singer began to write songs of her own. Her influences include renowned writer Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in addition to her love of Bjork's style. Her mother was supportive of her performing her music in front of the public, but not so that she could be famous, but to help others realize that they matter and what they can do to make a difference in the world. When she began playing the piano, she was only six and was writing her first song by the time she was nine. They didn't even be aware until fourteen. Aurora did not have a set goal. Aurora says she loves creating songs. She says that music is her most preferred way to feel anything.
